There has been plenty of speculation this week involving Peterborough United captain Harrison Burrows. Rumours began to circulate on social media claiming that Burrows is on the verge of completing a move to Sheffield United.
Meanwhile, the Peterborough Telegraph stated their sources told them Burrows was due in Sheffield for a medical at the end of this week, but the Posh have declined to comment on the ongoing speculation.
Additionally, Posh’s chairman has stirred the pot. Darragh MacAnthony responded to a Sheffield United fan on Twitter that asked him about the availability of two of standout defenders: Ronnie Edwards and Harrison Burrows. The chairman responded, “one out of two ain’t bad”.
Burrows, the 22-year-old, has a bright future, and with only 12 months remaining on his current Peterborough United deal it seems only a matter of time before the star left-wingback earns a big move to a top Championship team such as the Blades.
If Sheffield United can sign Harrison Burrows they would have a Championship cheat code
The young left-wingback has featured at least 37 times in each of his last three league campaigns, amassing an impressive 24 assists and 13 goals during this period.
His creative prowess is evident, ranking in the 97th percentile for assists per 90 minutes among full-backs in League One. Furthermore, he excels in distributing the ball, standing in the 96th percentile for key passes per game, 94th for crosses per game, and 99th for progressive passes per game.
Offensively, he remains a consistent threat, ranking 84th in touches within the opposition penalty area, 85th in shots taken per 90 minutes, and 81st percentile in goals per game from a full-back position.
United have not had a dependable left-wingback in their squad since the prime Enda Stevens days way back in the 2019/20 campaign. That is way too long to go without having a left-back that you can rely on. And in Burrows you know that you will not only have a durable player, but, one that you can lean on in tight games to conjure up a bit of magic from the left flank.
If the Blades can land the signature of Burrows that could help sway Oli McBurnie’s decision to stay at Bramall Lane; he would have plenty of chances made for him with both Burrows and Gustavo Hamer’s expert deliveries.
McBurnie would undoubtedly thrive in such surroundings. Compared to other strikers across Europe’s big five leagues and European competitions, the 28-year-old won almost eight aerial duels per 90 last season, that ranks him in the top 2% in Europe in that category, per FBref.
One can only imagine how many goal scoring opportunities he will get with two assist kings supplying him. Last season Burrows provided 14 assists in League One, and a further one in the Play-Off Semi-Finals vs Oxford United. Meanwhile, Hamer created six goals in his debut Premier League campaign, registering two key passes per game.
