On Monday, Arsenal stand on the cusp of rewriting English league history as they face Sheffield United. Under Mikel Arteta’s leadership, the team has the chance to achieve a remarkable feat: becoming the first team across all four tiers of English football to secure three consecutive away victories, each with a margin of five goals or more.
In February, the Gunners showcased their dominance with impressive away performances, triumphing 6-0 against West Ham United and 5-0 at Turf Moor against Burnley in the Premier League. Now, they stand poised to etch their names into the records of football history.
In the Premier League matches played thus far in 2024, Arsenal have been formidable, scoring 25 goals while conceding only three. Not surprisingly, they have emerged victorious in all six encounters.
This impressive run has reinvigorated Arteta’s side in the title race, following a minor setback towards the end of 2023. Currently, they trail league leaders Liverpool by just two points.
To sustain their title challenge, Arsenal must patiently await the final fixture of the matchday, where they will face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Monday.
Sheffield United, Arsenal’s upcoming opponents, currently possess the weakest defensive record in the division, having conceded a staggering 66 goals in 26 matches this season.
An encouraging sign for Arsenal, should they aim to achieve the new record, is that Sheffield United suffered back-to-back 5-0 defeats in their last two home games, against Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Prior to these defeats, Sheffield United’s home fixture also ended in a 5-2 loss in the FA Cup, once again against Brighton.
It’s not Arsenal suggesting a ‘ potential’ big Win.Thats the media bigging it up as some sort of target.
Ridiculous. The prem very rarely works that way.As we all know.
A win by whatever score line will suit either club I’m sure.
