Keith Andrews is set to join Sheffield United as part of the coaching team of Chris Wilder.
The Dubliner, formerly an assistant manager with the Republic of Ireland, will be part of a familiar group alongside Alan Knill and Matt Prestridge at Bramall Lane, according to The Star.
Wilder, returning to United with an 18-month deal, takes charge after the decision to relieve Paul Heckingbottom of his duties following a 5-0 defeat at Burnley. With the Blades at the bottom of the Premier League with five points from 14 games, Wilder faces the challenge of instilling fresh belief and confidence into a struggling squad.
Chris Wilder’s return to Sheffield United marks nearly 1,000 days since his departure in March 2021, driven by strained relations with the Bramall Lane hierarchy. Over the years, these relations have mended, and the 56-year-old was approached earlier this season about returning to the club.
Unemployed since leaving Watford at the end of the previous season, Wilder is eager to come back to his boyhood club. His aim is to attempt a remarkable escape, and if successful, it would arguably surpass the achievements of his two promotions during his previous tenure at Bramall Lane.
The facts were very bleak; Paul Heckingbottom wasn’t getting the most out of the players. As a bare minimum, Chris Wilder will get 100% out of his playees, that is for certain. Whether that’s enough to avoid relegation we’ll have to see over the next few months.
