Campbell: “We are going to absolutely batter someone” as Blade described as “Rolls Royce of a player” by teammate

In a hard-fought Steel City derby at Bramall Lane, Sheffield United secured a narrow 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon, thanks to Tyrese Campbell’s clinical goal in the 50th minute.

The game itself was tightly contested, with both teams struggling to find an attacking rhythm. Sheffield United, however, seized their moment in the second half. After Burrows delivered a well-placed ball into the area, Hamer managed to keep the play alive, finding Callum O’Hare. With excellent vision, O’Hare slipped in Campbell, who drilled his shot past the Wednesday keeper and into the net in front of the Kop, igniting incredible scenes of celebration from United supporters.

Sheffield United’s victory propels them to second place in the league, level on points with leaders Sunderland.

Tyrese Campbell and Harry Souttar on Steel City derby win for Sheffield United

For Campbell, scoring the winner in a match of such magnitude was a memorable experience. He shared his thoughts, via SUTV, on the goal and what it meant for his Sheffield United career:

“Surreal for me. To do something like that so early in my Sheffield United career, to score the winner in such a big game, I’m just so happy. I can’t thank the club enough: the fans, the manager, the staff, my teammates, for everything they’ve done and how they’ve been with me since I’ve been here. I came out after half-time and looked and I said, ‘I like scoring at that side.’ I got another at that side and just happy it was the winner.”

Campbell added that he sees this performance as a sign of what’s to come: “When it clicks, we’re a really good side. One game we are going to absolutely batter someone, it’s coming.”

Defender Harry Souttar, who was also playing in his first Steel City derby, was thrilled with the atmosphere and the outcome, he spoke to SUTV. Though acknowledging that the performance was less than perfect, Souttar emphasised the importance of the result:

“It was great. Obviously, the result was the main thing we were looking for. The performance probably wasn’t the best, but the three points is all that mattered, and obviously the atmosphere was absolutely incredible from minute one. A great day all around.”

Souttar also highlighted the squad’s depth, acknowledging the efforts of players like Ryan Oné, Jack Robinson, and Sydie Peck, who stepped up when needed.

“You look at Ryan [Oné] scoring in midweek and coming on today, Robbo coming on and bringing that experience and a calm head: it was a great team performance, and we’re going to need that through the season to deal with injuries and suspensions. Even Sydie Peck coming on, just what we needed, I thought he was excellent in the second half.”

The giant centre-back also went on to praise defensive midfielder Vinicius Souza, describing him as a “Rolls Royce of a player”.

Unfortunately, the Blades have an injury doubt coming out of the game after Oliver Arblaster was forced off at half-time with a knee injury after falling awkwardly on the ground. After the game, he was seen walking around with a knee brace; we’ll see if he will be fit to play against Coventry City after the international break.
