“I don’t care about other clubs” – Sheffield United midfielder sends strong message after recent transfer speculation

Sheffield United midfielder Vinicius Souza has been adjusting to the rigours of the Championship and it’s fair to say he has had a very good start to the new campaign.

The Brazilian carried on his fine form in the 1-0 victory over Watford where he excelled in all aspects of the game. Souza registered an 89% pass completion rate including four of seven long passes and a key pass. Defensively, he made seven successful defensive actions which included two successful tackles, and he won eight total duels out of a game-high 15 total duels entered.

Despite admitting the physical demands of England’s second tier, Souza remains determined to enjoy every moment and give his all for the team.

“I know the Championship is crazy. It’s my first time, but the other guys talk to me and say we need to fight all game, so I know now. I’m tired, but I just need to enjoy and fight every game. It’s hard, I swear I’m very tired,” he admitted in an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield.

Souza has found joy in playing alongside teammates like Oliver Arblaster, Gustavo Hamer, and Callum O’Hare. “It’s easy to play with Arblaster, Gus and Cal. I just turn with the ball, I don’t need to do more than that,” he said with a smile. The chemistry among the midfield trio has been evident both on and off the pitch. “We enjoy playing together, we enjoy at the training ground, we enjoy having days off together, the relationship is amazing,” Souza adds, highlighting the strong bonds that have formed within the squad.

During the summer transfer window, there was significant speculation about Souza’s future, with several clubs reportedly showing interest in the Brazilian. However, Souza has made it clear that his focus remains firmly on Sheffield United. “It’s true [clubs were interested], but this is for my family and I enjoy my friends here. We enjoy Manchester and Sheffield because I know I have good relationships, and on days off we’re together. I don’t care about other clubs, if it happened or not I really don’t care.”

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has been full of praise for Souza’s attitude amidst the summer speculation. “Vini’s attitude [to speculation] has been good and supporters should really recognise that, and I’m sure they do,” Wilder previously commented, acknowledging the player’s professionalism and loyalty during a potentially unsettling period.

Wilder also spoke highly of Souza’s impact on the squad, particularly in light of the departures of some older players. “It’s a different league and a different environment, so maybe with a few of the older players gone, that character and personality might have been able to grow, which it definitely has. He’s a really popular guy amongst the boys. Pre-season he’s been fabulous, he’s been all over the place in a good way, flying into tackles, getting around the park, and he’s a good footballer.”
