Leeds United are eager to bolster their midfield and have come back in with another bid for Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer.
The West Yorkshire club previously made an initial £13 million bid for the Brazilian-born Dutch midfielder earlier this week. However, this offer was immediately rejected, prompting Leeds to come back with an improved bid that included striker Joel Piroe plus additional cash, as per The Star. The Blades have swiftly rejected this offer as they are reluctant to sell him.
United manager Chris Wilder recently responded to the initial offer publicly, “I don’t know [if they’ll make another bid]. I really don’t know what they’re thinking. Everyone knows what the bid is [a low ball offer]. They’ve brought in £120m and are trying to nick our player for what the bid is.”
Champions League club make offer for key Sheffield United man
In another potential blow to Sheffield United, Portuguese giants Porto have expressed interest in signing their centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic, per Sky Sports. The 25-year-old Bosnian international was a standout performer for the Blades the last time they were in the Championship.
While no official bid has been tabled yet, the interest from such a prestigious club could tempt Ahmedhodzic, especially with the prospect of European football on offer. The Blades, already grappling with squad depth issues at centre-back, would be reluctant to lose a key player like Ahmedhodzic without securing a suitable replacement, but they would have to act fast with just over 24 hours left of the window.
United never agreed deal for Irish international
In other news, West Bromwich Albion have agreed to a £3 million fee with Celtic for Mikey Johnston, and the player is expected to undergo a medical at West Brom today. Despite the Blades showing an interest in the Irish winger no bid was ever tabled, according to The Star, even though other sources claimed there had been.
Blades to keep Sydie Peck amongst first team
A previous report from the Rotherham Advertiser claimed Rotherham United were very keen to take Sheffield United’s talented young midfielder Sydie Peck on loan for the season. However, the Blades lack depth in midfield positions with Jamie Shackleton and Tom Davies both recovering from injuries.
Speaking about the 20-year-old, the Millers’ boss Steve Evans said, “I love Sydie, but my understanding is that he is going to stay at Sheffield United. Chris Wilder has intimated that he is going to keep him,” as per the Rotherham Advertiser.
Peck, a promising talent who has impressed in the youth ranks and in pre-season, is seen as part of the long-term plans at Sheffield United. He has already made four appearances this season across the first five competitive matches, registering an assist and earning one Man of the Match award.
