Sheffield United have reignited their interest in Leicester City defender Harry Souttar, according to the Telegraph’s John Percy. The Australian international is set to leave the Foxes this summer via a season-long loan. His former club Stoke City are another Championship club linked with him.
The 25-year-old made a total of three appearances for Leicester City in their Championship winning campaign last term, starting just once.
The Blades were interested in Souttar earlier this year when they attempted to make a last-minute loan move for the Aussie in the January transfer window, as reported by Football Insider, however a move didn’t materialise.
Blades desperately need defensive reinforcements
Fast forward a few months later and Sheffield United find themselves in desperate need for right sided centre-back reinforcements, with only Anel Ahmedhodzic being the club’s senior defender in this position.
United have been linked with the likes of Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall but it is thought the Blades are slightly put off by the £4 million price-tag for the 27-year-old.
Alfie Gilchrist, the Chelsea prospect, is another player that could fit the right centre-back position, as well as at right-back. United are said to be one of the favourites to bring him in on loan.
Sheffield United linked with out of favour Las Palmas forward
In other news, the Blades have been linked with Las Palmas forward Sory Kaba, per Sport Witness. The 28-year-old has been told by the La Liga club that he is surplus to requirements. Several Championship clubs are interested in Kaba with Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion also declaring interest in him.
Kaba made a total of 17 league appearances last season, starting nine of them, where he found the net once and added an assist to his name.
He is no stranger to the English second tier however; he endured a short loan spell for Cardiff City at the back end of the 2022/23 campaign and he enjoyed his time with the Bluebirds, scoring eight times in 17 Championship appearances.
We have already seen what was effectively a swap deal involving a Sheffield United forward this summer: free agent Daniel Jebbison snubbed the Blades’ contract extension to join Bournemouth, while Cherrier striker Kieffer Moore joined Chris Wilder’s squad.
Former striker Oli McBurnie also turned down the chance to extend his stay with United and instead has joined Las Palmas. Could the Blades pull off a similar “swap” with Las Palmas for Sory Kaba?
