Sheffield United, who had been expected to progress past the League One side, were undone by a simple goal from Barnsley's Max Watters early in the second half.

Chris Wilder thrilled after adding duo to Sheffield United

On Monday afternoon Sheffield United announced the signings of Welsh international Kieffer Moore and free agent attacking midfielder Callum O’Hare.

Sheffield United announce signing of Kieffer Moore

Moore, 31, has penned a three-year deal after joining the Blades for an undisclosed fee from AFC Bournemouth. The striker is no stranger to South Yorkshire having previously had spells at Rotherham United and Barnsley, and now he joins up with some familiar faces at S2 such as Rhys Norrington-Davies and Adam Davies.

Chris Wilder had this to say, after the confirmation of the Kieffer Moore signing, “I have been an admirer of Kieffer’s abilities for some time, and our persistence and hard work on this deal has paid off.

“There was a real desire from all parties to get this done and I am thrilled to have Kieffer as part of our project going forward.

“He’s well known to the staff here, especially Alan Knill and Jack Lester who have worked with him at close quarters with Wales. Kieffer has all the tools required to succeed as a Blade. He’s strong and robust but also athletic for a player of his size and his goal record at this level over the years is impressive.

“You don’t have to look far to see his impact in this division. His goals helped Bournemouth and most recently Ipswich to the Premier League. He is a proven operator whose experience will complement some of the young strikers coming through here,” via the club’s official website.

Blades get Callum O’Hare over the line

Meanwhile, Sheffield United had to fight off several clubs to acquire the signature of former Coventry City star Callum O’Hare. The 26-year-old has agreed on a four-year deal with the club.

Speaking about getting O’Hare over the line, the Blades chief said: “Our punters will know a lot about Callum, he has performed well against us for Coventry in the past and I know they will have seen attributes which fit with what they expect a Sheffield United player to be like,” via the club’s official website.

“I’ve spoken at length about the type of players we want here going forward and about getting the culture right. Callum ticks boxes with what we are looking for and we, as a staff, can’t wait to get working with him.”

Like Moore, O’Hare has a familiar face to be greeted by at Shirecliffe as he links up with former Coventry midfielder Gustavo Hamer. During O’Hare’s final full campaign alongside Hamer (O’Hare missed most of the 2022/23 season due to a severe injury), the pair conjured up 25 Championship goal contributions out of Coventry’s 60 goals that term.

O’Hare spoke to SUTV about the relationship him and Hamer have: “He’s been messaging me all week saying ‘what’s going on? Is it done yet?’ He’s a top guy, a top player. We have a good connection on and off the pitch so I can’t wait to spark that back up again. He knows my game, which is obviously a big thing when you’re going into somewhere new. I can’t wait to get back on the pitch with him.”
