West Ham United are on the verge of announcing the signing of former Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham after being released by the Blades, per Football Insider.
Foderingham, 33, made over 100 appearances for United across a four-year span, in which he kept 39 clean sheets.
The former England youth international had come under major scrutiny by Sheffield United supporters during the last Premier League campaign after making a bunch of errors. Ultimately, Foderingham would be replaced by winter signing Ivo Grbic, who arrived from Atletico Madrid, after serving as Jan Oblak’s number two.
Sheffield United’s goalkeeping tales
It very quickly became apparent that Grbic was nowhere near Premier League level and the Croatian goalkeeper would concede 25 goals in nine appearances. And when you look at the 28-year-old’s goal prevention stats on SofaScore, it states that he actually conceded ten goals more than he should have.
In an interesting turn of events, the S2 faithful began to demand re-inclusion of Wes Foderingham. And to be fair to the London-born stopper, he put in some spirited performances towards the end of the campaign and he clearly impressed West Ham.
With the departure of Foderingham and Jordan Amissah, the Blades will likely bring in two goalkeepers this summer, especially if Grbic is sold. Meanwhile, Adam Davies’ future is uncertain.
