“It makes ideal sense” – Premier League club tipped to sign former Sheffield United ace

Former Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale continues to be linked with a move away from Arsenal ahead of this summer.

As per the Daily Mail, Newcastle are showing renewed interest in Aarom Ramsdale, with Eddie Howe continuing to be a staunch supporter since signing him at Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old is eager for consistent playing time once more, having taken on the role of Arsenal’s second-choice goalkeeper after the arrival of Brentford loanee David Raya last summer.

Jeff Stelling thinks Newcastle will sell Nick Pope if they sign Aaron Ramsdale

During a discussion on TalkSPORT with Ally McCoist, Jeff Stelling admitted that he thinks Newcastle will sign Ramsdale in the summer and then part ways with the currently injured Nick Pope.

“[Pope is nearly] 32 years of age. Goalkeepers can play a lot longer than perhaps outfield players, it would certainly make ideal sense for Ramsdale.

“It makes ideal sense for Newcastle, but it means Nick Pope leaves the club. He doesn’t stay as a number two,” Stelling stated.

Despite the rumours of Newcastle being interested in Ramsdale once more, Mikel Arteta has recently told the Mirror that the shot-stopper could stay with the Gunners beyond the summer.

Arsenal signed the Englishman from the Blades for a fee rising up to as much as £30 million back in the summer of 2021. Bournemouth held a 15% sell-on clause for any amount exceeding £19 million. And it’s rumoured the Blades have a 15% sell-on clause too.
