Sheffield United interested in shot-stopper with seven-figure release clause

There have been multiple rumours linking Sheffield United to Viktor Johansson, however no reports ever emerged stating the Blades had made an offer for the Rotherham United shot-stopper.

In a lackluster campaign for the Millers, few players have managed to shine, but goalkeeper Johansson has stood out with a series of remarkable performances, despite being part of the Championship’s worst defence.

It’s widely anticipated that the 25-year-old Swedish international will seek a move elsewhere this summer rather than ply his trade in the third tier. The Rotherham Advertiser has now revealed that the Swede has a seven-figure relegation release clause in his contract.

Sheffield United have once more been credited with strong interest, there’s also interest from Europe.

Johansson, Rotherham’s Player of the Season last campaign is more than likely set to win the same award at the end of this term too, highlighting his significance to the Championship’s bottom club.

As it stands, the Blades are set to have just one goalkeeper under contract in the summer, latest recruit Ivo Grbic. Wes Foderingham has been reluctant to sign an extension, while Adam Davies and academy graduate Jordan Amissah are set to depart the club as well. This likely means United will have to sign at the very least one goalkeeper in the summer – Johansson could be the one.
