Manchester City star right-back Kyle Walker recently expressed his desire to eventually rejoin his boyhood club Sheffield United before he hangs up his boots. But that decision could be quite a few years away.
The 33-year-old explained to Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE podcast that, “I don’t want to drop too low, I think it gets harder – certain things you have the luxury of having at City – facilities or nutrition – but I’d like to finish at Sheffield United.”
The City captain was also questioned about potential approaches from Saudi Arabia in the near future. He refrained from denying any interest, though there have been no indications of such interest from the Middle East so far.
Fabrizio Romano reports that City’s dependable right-back was never on the verge of joining Saudi last summer. Whether the project will pursue him in future transfer windows remains uncertain.
Kyle Walker to return at Sheffield United?
While it would be brilliant for Walker to eventually come back to the Blades it feels a million miles away at the moment. The 33-year-old is still arguably the best right-back in the world and he has plenty of time left in his career.
Walker has another season left on his City contract. From then on it wouldn’t be surprising if the England international signed for a Saudi Arabian club for a year or two, and then comes back to Sheffield United to complete the fairytale ending.
