Sheffield United ace dealt major blow by international manager

Ben Brereton-Diaz was sent on loan to Sheffield United by his parent club Villarreal in the January transfer window. The Chilean international had struggled to find form in Spain.

Since signing for the Blades he has certainly given United a boost in attack with his direct running in the transitional phase, and the former Blackburn man has scored twice in four Premier League games.

But now the Sheffield United loanee has been advised by his national team manager that he must learn to speak Spanish if he aspires to represent the Chile national team in the future.

His absence from the squad for the forthcoming friendlies against Albania and France has been attributed to his manager Ricardo Gareca’s criticism of his language skills.

“I would like him to learn Spanish, I think it is important. He was called up for the Copa America two years ago, he has had enough time to [learn how to] speak Spanish,” quoted by the Mail Online.

The 24-year-old has scored seven goals in 27 caps for Chile since his debut in 2021.

This will come as a huge blow for Brereton-Diaz and now his participation in Chile’s Copa America campaign in the summer is now in major doubt.
