After Sheffield United’s humiliating 6-0 defeat at home to Arsenal Chris Wilder has hinted that more academy products could be set to make appearances in the Premier League.
The Blades were completely annihilated in the first half on Monday Night Football leading to drastic changes at halftime. Wilder made three subs taking off experienced players Oli McBurnie and Tom Davies – replacing them with two youngsters Will Osula and Andre Brooks. A little later on Oli Arblaster was also brought on. The young midfielder was one of only three United players to actually register a key pass in the game for the home side.
After the game, Chris Wilder revealed to SUTV: “What I will say is: from now you might see more of the youth players.”
It’s safe to say United did look slightly better with Andre Brooks and Arblaster in midfield, they carried more of a threat and had far more energy.
Sheffield United’s shocking defending continues
Sheffield United have achieved a unique record in English league football by becoming the first team to allow five or more goals in four consecutive home games. Additionally, they are also the first team to suffer three consecutive home league defeats, each by a margin of at least five goals.
Up next for the Blades is a journey to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon as they hope to have a far better showing than Monday night’s obliteration.
