Pundit predicts “inconsistent” Wolves vs Sheffield United clash

Sheffield United return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon as they take a trip to Wolves, a match that pundit Paul Merson acknowledges could pose a challenge for Gary O’Neil’s team.

Following their impressive performance against Spurs last weekend, Wolves aim to mirror that success at Molineux as they face Sheffield United. While the away side are hoping to bounce back from a heavy defeat against Brighton.

Despite securing impressive back-to-back away victories in the capital, Wolves have struggled with their home form, suffering defeats in their last two matches in front of their fans.

With Chris Wilder’s bottom-of-the-table squad set to visit Molineux next, the hosts may see this as a chance to improve their home form. However, pundit Paul Merson has cautioned that the game might not be as straightforward as it appears on paper.

In his Sportskeeda column, Merson showered praise on Wolves for their recent victories against Chelsea and Spurs, but he didn’t hesitate to pinpoint a significant issue within O’Neil’s squad.

“Wolves have been amazing in recent weeks, but they’re another team that tends to be very inconsistent.

“The problem with Wolves is that when the pressure’s on and they need to win, they don’t.”

Merson forecasted a 3-1 victory for the hosts against the Blades, acknowledging that they would need to overcome their inconsistency in matches against lower-ranked opponents.

With survival no longer a concern, O’Neil may see his squad engaged in a contest for a potential European finish, as there are currently only three points separating 11th and 7th place in the table.

Meanwhile Sheffield United will be hoping to close the gap to safety to four points this weekend with a win.
