Chris Wilder “confident and hopeful” of getting a deal done for young forward

After recently confirming Oli Arblaster’s contract extension, Chris Wilder has expressed optimism regarding Sheffield United’s prospects of securing striker Daniel Jebbison to a fresh contract, despite prior concerns of his potential departure this summer.

The England youth international, who becomes a free agent at the end of the season, is currently engaged in discussions with the club about extending his tenure.

Discussions regarding Jebbison’s contract extension commenced early in the current season, during the tenure of Chris Wilder’s predecessor, Paul Heckingbottom. Throughout this period, Jebbison faced setbacks due to a blend of injury and personal health issues since his promotion.

Initially, some officials at Bramall Lane had accepted the likelihood of Jebbison departing this summer. However, earlier this year, Chris Wilder believed he had achieved a breakthrough following discussions with the striker and his family.

Wilder spoke to The Star regarding Jebbison’s potential new deal: “In talks with the chief exec at the moment, so we’re all positive. We had a Zoom meeting with the owners and the board and Steve [Bettis, chief executive] last week. So it’s ongoing.

Recent commitments from promising young talents such as Will Osula, Andre Brooks, Louie Marsh and Arblaster underline the significance of the Shirecliffe academy within the Sheffield United framework, irrespective of the division the Blades may compete in next season.

“We’re confident and hopeful, the attitude of the boy and the parents and the agent is that he sees his future at Sheffield United,” the gaffer added.

Jebbison, who holds the record as the youngest player in Premier League history to score on his full debut, garnered immediate attention after his breakthrough. Everton made a rejected £5m bid for him soon after his remarkable debut, while their city rivals, Liverpool, also expressed interest in the 20-year-old Canadian-born forward in subsequent years.
