Vincent Kompany’s “exceptional” claims regarding the bottom three

Vincent Kompany has recently stated that he considers it an “exceptional achievement” for any of the three newly promoted teams to successfully avoid relegation and maintain their status in the Premier League.

Burnley find themselves in the precarious position of being inside the Premier League’s bottom three, alongside the two fellow promoted sides, Sheffield United and Luton Town. Luton Town, who secured promotion through the play-offs, are currently faring the best among the three, occupying the 18th spot and trailing safety by just one point.

In their recent match against Luton, Vincent Kompany’s team came agonisingly close to securing a crucial three points, only to be thwarted by a controversial stoppage-time equaliser.

Meanwhile, the Blades are still bewildered by the Boxing Day meeting with Luton in which they had dominated the proceedings only to lose 3-2 via two deflected goals.

The recent pivotal moments, between the three clubs at the bottom, could have significant implications, and Vincent Kompany is fully aware of the challenge that lies ahead.

“I do feel like if we’re being really honest about it, the distinction you have to make is that Luton came up with a team that never had any Premier League players in it, so it’s always much more difficult,” he told the Burnley Express.

“What they are doing now is a tremendous sign of progress.”

Later adding, “For any of us that make it, it would be an exceptional achievement.”
