Blades target reportedly says “yes” as deal edges closer

According to the latest reports from Sportske Novosti, it appears that Atletico Madrid are leaning towards accepting Sheffield United’s £2 million bid for goalkeeper Ivo Grbić during the winter transfer market.

The move to the Premier League is considered a significant opportunity for the 28-year-old goalkeeper, who is reportedly eager to join Sheffield United in order to secure regular playing time. Marca states that the deal is progressing, affirming that the goalkeeper “will go to Sheffield United.”

Grbić, currently serving as Jan Oblak’s backup at Atletico Madrid in La Liga, has not seen any playing time in the current season. The lack of appearances is said to be a key factor in his decision to explore a move to Sheffield United, where he likely anticipates the opportunity for regular game time.

Ivo Grbić’s contract with Atletico Madrid is set to expire at the end of the current season. His reported agreement to join Sheffield United has reportedly paved the way for Diego Simeone’s team to secure a replacement in the form of Horațiu Moldovan from Rapid Bucharest.

The Blades will be hoping the Croatian can come in and immediately fix their leaky defence which has set unwanted records this season. Sheffield United hold the record for most goals conceded in a Premier League season after 14 games. In the 2023/24 season, they conceded 39 goals in the first 14 games. This has since expanded to conceding 51 goals in 21 games.
