Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is eager to make strategic moves before the end of the winter transfer window, particularly as his team battles for survival. Wilder is specifically looking to strengthen the goalkeeper position, with a focus on potential recruits from Spain, per BBC Radio Sheffield.
The Blades are currently eyeing Atletico Madrid’s goalkeeper, Ivo Grbic, as a potential target, per the report. Grbic, 28, has served as the backup goalkeeper for Atletico Madrid this season and has yet to make an appearance for the club in the current campaign.
The Croatian goalkeeper did make 12 appearances in La Liga last season, managing to keep a clean sheet three times. Grbic’s contract with Atletico Madrid is set to expire in the summer and the possibility of a move to the Premier League with Sheffield United could be enticing for him.
With all this talk about signing the likes of Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Ward, Grbic does make the most sense given that he’s at a decent age and coming from an outstanding team. Even though he is listed as a number two, he’s bound to have learned and improved working with one of the best goalkeepers of this era, Jan Oblak.
