19-year-old completes Latics loan move from Sheffield United

Oldham have secured the services of Sai Sachdev from Sheffield United. The promising youngster has joined the Latics on loan until the conclusion of the season. Sachdev, an England international who has represented his country through various age groups, including the Under 19s, initially made his debut for the Blades in the Championship back in 2022.

Latics boss Micky Mellon explained why he has signed the promising right-back for the remainder of the campaign:

“Sai fits the profile of what we’re looking for in an out-and-out wing-back. He’s young, energetic and ambitious, those are qualities we want to bring to the football club.”

Sachdev, a Leicester native, began his football journey in the youth team of his hometown club until 2017. Following his departure from the Foxes, he had a stint with the local team Aylestone Park before catching the attention of the Blades who signed him at the age of 16.

His talent didn’t go unnoticed, leading to appearances with the England U17s, U18s, and U19s. Sachdev marked his debut for Sheffield United against Stoke City in October 2022 and has occasionally found himself in and around United’s matchday squad having impressed in the development team.

The 19-year-old spoke to the club’s website upon completing his loan move:

“I’m really happy to get this move done, I’ve been looking to make the step into men’s football this season. Youth football is good, but playing for points which mean something every week is a different level, and something I’m looking forward to.”

Meanwhile Sachdev’s teammate Antwoine Hackford has today signed a two-year contract extension with the Blades.
