Former Sheffield United standout listed for loan

Southampton are said to be actively pursuing the signing of ex Sheffield United standout David Brooks, a player who has also been associated with interest from Leeds United.

Leeds United expressed interest in the 26-year-old before the January transfer window commenced, and rumours surrounding his potential move persist. As per PA Media’s Nick Mashiter, Southampton are also intensifying efforts to secure a loan deal for Brooks until the conclusion of the season.

Brooks has only been granted two starting opportunities in the Premier League this season, facing stiff competition within Andoni Iraola’s squad.

Having joined the Cherries in 2018 from Sheffield United, he has been navigating challenges to secure a regular spot in the lineup since a major health scare. His career faced an interruption with a stage-two Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis in 2021, but there was positive news as he was declared cancer-free in 2022.

Brooks is a very versatile midfielder as he is capable of playing as an advanced midfielder or on the wing. He would be a great addition to a promotion chasing squad in the Championship.

It would be interesting to see if a Premier League club, down near the bottom of the table, is a possible loan option for Brooks.
