Sources reveal Sheffield United’s January transfer budget for Chris Wilder

Sources indicate that incoming Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is seeking available transfer funds for the January window.

Set to replace Paul Heckingbottom, Wilder aims to strengthen the squad as the Blades strive to remain in the Premier League, currently positioned at the bottom of the table.

Despite Chris Wilder’s return to Bramall Lane and improved relations with Sheffield United’s owner Prince Abdullah, sources indicate that there won’t be substantial funds at his disposal in the upcoming January transfer window, per football insider.

The former Watford boss may face limitations in strengthening the squad, returning after being sacked in 2021 and replaced by Heckingbottom, who couldn’t prevent the Blades’ relegation. Despite their Championship promotion last term, a challenging start in the Premier League led to Heckingbottom’s departure.

After parting ways with key players Sander Berge and Illiman Ndiaye during the summer transfer window, Sheffield United now sits at the bottom of the Premier League following a 5-0 defeat to Burnley last Saturday.

Chris Wilder faces his first game back as Sheffield United manager against Liverpool on Wednesday – Wilder and Jurgen Klopp have history with each other from the last time United were in the Premier League, so this one could be tasty on the touchline.

The Blades find themselves four points adrift of 17th which is currently occupied by Luton Town.
