Bottom club Burnley host third from bottom Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon with huge pressure on both managers to get three points from this fixture.
The Clarets have had a poor time at Turf Moor back in the Premier League, losing all seven of their home matches. While Sheffield United have picked up just one point on their travels, that came against a depleted Brighton team who were eventually forced down to ten men in the second half.
How do the home supporters feel about this upcoming crucial clash?
Opposition fans
“Sheffield United is a must win or Kompany has to go. It’s that simple this game is massive. Sheff Utd are the worst team in the league(with us) if they beat us they will have a 4 point advantage over us. A draw isn’t good enough these are the teams we have to beat at home. 0 home wins is depressing we are a laughing stock and just not good enough.”
“I don’t think Sheffield United are worse than us. They have more battling qualities for starters.”
“Sheff Utd will bully us to death and our team will fold like a pack of cards. Spineless.”
“Staying up is gone this season, it’s nailed on for the relegation in reality. I won’t shed a tear if Kompany goes now, he’s completely lost the plot.”
“Totally irrelevant Sheff utd game , this team will not win enough games this season. We will beat derbys record for lowest points and all time premier league losses which currently stands at 29 in one season. We will not win 9 games this season. Just being realistic.”
Key stats
The Blades boast an undefeated record in Premier League games against teams starting the day at the bottom (W4 D7), with their last loss dating back to a 1-1 draw with Fulham in October 2020.
Burnley’s winger, Luca Koleosho, has had the most touches in the opposition box among players yet to score in the Premier League this season, amassing 48.
Sheffield United has faced challenges on the road, losing 25 of their last 30 Premier League away games (W2 D3).
Burnley, on the other hand, has faced home struggles, losing all seven of their Premier League home games this season and risks becoming the first team in English Football League history to lose their opening eight home games in a campaign.
My opinion
Two awful teams come face-to-face with each other this weekend. Burnley’s home form is horrendous, while Sheffield United’s away form is shocking. Something’s got to give.
If football was about style points Burnley would be above the Blades. But on the flip side, United seem to have a lot more battle and grit about them.
For me this game comes down to what type of game this turns out to be, and I think we’ll have a clear indication of that after 10 minutes have been played.
If Burnley can play at a good tempo and find their passing rhythm early, it could be a long day for the travelling team. However, if Sheffield United can make the game scrappy and bully Burnley on first and second balls, that would bode well for the rest of the game.
