Jurgen Klopp reveals Liverpool key player is out for visit to Sheffield United

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that star goalkeeper Alisson Becker is likely to miss several games after sustaining an injury in the clash with Manchester City.

There were initial concerns that Alisson could be sidelined for months, but Klopp revealed that he is expected to be among the Liverpool players unavailable for the upcoming game against Sheffield United.

The Reds are set to face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane next Wednesday, aiming to continue their strong form against Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

Klopp acknowledged that Alisson’s absence is anticipated to last for a few weeks:

“Not day by day, he cannot play tomorrow or Sunday. Probably not the week after,  then he’ll be OK. No [it’s not as bad as first feared]. But it’s bad enough.” [Liverpool World]

Sheffield United will need every bit of help they can possibly get if they wish to come out of the Liverpool game with points. Liverpool being without their Brazilian shot-stopper is a blow because there aren’t many better in world football at playing out from the back than him.

But for now the focus for the Blades will be on a must-win trip to Burnley at the weekend, where Paul Heckingbottom may need a win to keep his job.
