Pundits predict Brighton vs Sheffield United

Paul Merson believes that Sheffield United’s recent victory against Wolves may have temporarily masked some underlying issues at Bramall Lane. He anticipates that their upcoming match against Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend will prove challenging.

Paul Heckingbottom’s team is eager to capitalise on their first Premier League win of the season. However, former Arsenal and England midfielder, Merson, predicts that the Blades will suffer a 2-0 defeat at the American Express stadium on Sunday.

In his column with Sportskeeda, the Sky Sports pundit expressed his views:

There is such a gulf between the top teams and the ones at the bottom of this league now. I know football is a funny game. Once certain teams go above a level, it’s just so difficult for others to catch up. That’s why I can’t see anything but a Brighton win.

“Sheffield got one of their best results of the season against Wolves last weekend (2-1 win). But if you watched the game, they won due to a last-gasp penalty that shouldn’t have been given. It just helped them paper over the cracks and Brighton are too good of a side to be beaten by the Blades.”

Chris Sutton, the former Celtic striker, has similarly dismissed the prospects of Sheffield United causing an upset. In his weekly BBC predictions, Sutton has predicted a comfortable 3-0 win for Brighton.
