Sheffield United will have strong interest in Arsenal’s transfer activities during the upcoming January window due to a sell-on clause in the deal that sent Aaron Ramsdale from Bramall Lane to the Emirates, back in August 2021.
Recent transfer speculation has linked Ramsdale to Chelsea, with reports suggesting a potential fee as high as £60 million if Arsenal decides to sell him, according to respected Arsenal reporter Charles Watts. This could be positive news for Sheffield United, as they stand to profit significantly from their sell-on clause, depending on the terms of the sale.
When Sheffield United sold Aaron Ramsdale to Bournemouth in 2017 the club inserted a 15% sell-on clause to any future sale, but they weren’t able to benefit from that as United bought him back in the summer of 2020. This time around, it is rumoured that United have a 25% sell-on clause. If the rumoured figures are correct then the club could pocket as much as £15 million in January.
Given the injury challenges at the club, manager Paul Heckingbottom is in need of new recruits in January, and any additional funds from this deal would be a welcome boost for the Blades as they attempt to keep their Premier League status for another campaign.
