Oli McBurnie on “warrior” teammates

Oli McBurnie acknowledges the “freak” nature of the injuries that are racking up for Sheffield United after he was added to the casualty list. He emphasises that the team’s response is to fight through these challenges.

In their recent 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, McBurnie became the 11th senior player to suffer an injury, damaging his groin during the match.

McBurnie told Yorkshire Post: “I’ve never experienced it before and the injuries, they’re so freakish, out of the blue. A lot aren’t muscle injuries, just random ones and no-one has a clue why they’re happening.”

Notably, several key players including: Chris Basham, John Egan, and Tom Davies, underwent surgery during the international break, and the list of injured players has grown to include: Anel Ahmedhodzic, George Baldock, Adam Davies, Will Osula, Rhys Norrington-Davies, Max Lowe, and Daniel Jebbison, who has been out of action since August due to illness. Sheffield United remain determined to overcome these setbacks.

United’s number nine urged that his teammates are “warriors”.

“I look around and there are warriors around me, there are boys who are with me 100 per cent and will stick together no matter the circumstances or the situation.

“I think you saw that on Saturday, the boys are giving everything and no-one can say otherwise. We’ll keep giving everything until we make it work.”
