It’s crazy to think back in the summer there were supporters on social media slating Sheffield United for giving Jack Robinson a two-year contract extension. Since then he has shown his true value to the Blades. He has been the team’s most consistent and standout performer through the first nine games of the season, despite being part of the worst defence in the Premier League.
Robinson was once upon a time deemed surplus to requirements at beautiful downtown Bramall Lane, but now, some fans treat him like a cult hero. No matter what type of game it is, you know Robinson will be competing for everything and putting his body on the line. It’s things like that which gets the Sheffield United faithful up and out of their seats.
While he will never be what a prime Jack O’Connell was as an attacking threat, he does still offer that same determination, work rate and willingness to battle that his fellow scouser had.
What makes his performances even more impressive is the lack of consistency he’s had to deal with in the back line. The Blades have dealt with troubles at left-wingback: originally starting with Max Lowe (injured), then they moved on to summer loan-signing Yasser Larouci before bringing in Luke Thomas as a starter who’s also on loan.
Now, Robinson has been part of a back four following the latest injury to the defence with Anel Ahmedhodzic facing several weeks on the sideline due to a hamstring strain.
