Sheffield United legend, Michael Brown has shared his thoughts with the BBC on what happened at Bramall Lane last Sunday and how the Blades can bounce back.
Brown said:
“The result will have really shattered the confidence they had built up. Obviously, the training ground will be a disappointing place. That’s where you need good characters and the staff are so important – the support staff to the manager as well. I know Stuart McCall and Jack Lester well and that will be their job.
“You can’t dwell on the result either although you have to understand why it happened. You have to quickly say, ‘Lads, this is the Premier League and we need to put it right’. Work out why there were mistakes there and just try to build them up on the training ground.”
Losing 8-0 to Newcastle United was a huge surprise because of how the Blades equipped themselves against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, despite losing 2-1 in both games.
Paul Heckingbottom, Stuart McCall and Jack Lester have the tough task of picking players up ready for Saturday’s trip to West Ham after being annihilated on their own patch, on national TV.
The Hammers’ biggest strength is Sheffield United’s biggest weakness – set pieces – this has supporters thinking the worst ahead of Saturday afternoons kick-off.
