Vinicius Souza eagerly embraced the opportunity to join Sheffield United this summer, despite receiving tempting offers from Brazil, Spain, and other English clubs. The 24-year-old midfielder has made a promising start to life at Bramall Lane, although he had to adapt to English football and its tempo of play, having missed a substantial portion of pre-season while finalising his move to South Yorkshire.
His journey to England followed a successful loan spell in La Liga with Espanyol last season. Paul Heckingbottom humorously mentioned in an interview that he spoke more with Souza than his own wife during the negotiation period. Initially considering a loan arrangement, Sheffield United ultimately secured Souza on a four-year deal.
Souza is diligently working to acclimate himself further. He said, “I live a lot day to day. I’m a guy who is there and dedicates himself 100%. I arrive early and leave late. Ever since I came to Europe, I’ve had this in my head. For my future, I only ask for success, because I know I will work for it. I’m going to give my life, for myself, for the team and for my family.” [The Star]
Having started every Premier League game in which he has been available for United this season, Souza is progressively gaining fitness and adjusting to the demands of English top-flight football.
