The news of Billy Sharp’s presence in the star-studded LA Galaxy lineup initially stunned many fans, but it won’t come as a surprise that he has netted two goals in his last two matches. This now brings Sharp’s career league goal tally to an impressive 250.
Having participated in five MLS games, Sharp has found the net three times, which included a penalty on his debut, leaving Chicago Fire, St. Louis City, and Los Angeles FC defeated in his wake. The former Sheffield United player continues to demonstrate his knack for scoring, and it wouldn’t be a shock if Minnesota United becomes his next victim.
The EFL legend turned down opportunities to stay in England over the summer after the Blades decided against offering him a new contract. Derby County, Hull City and his former youth team Rotherham United were linked with the 37-year-old. But when news broke of LA Galaxy’s interest, Sharp’s eyes lit up as he now embarks on his new journey in the MLS.
As things stand, Galaxy are 13th in the Western Conference, six points off the play-off spots. With reputable names such as Riqui Puig, Douglas Costa and Maya Yoshida, along with veteran goalscorer Sharp, they will have a strong chance to climb up the table before the end of the regular season next month.
