Gustavo Hamer on third late defeat of the season

Gustavo Hamer has already justified his £15m price-tag to Sheffield United having found the net twice in four games in the Premier League, as well as heavily contributing to the two goals scored against Everton.

The Dutch central midfielder, like the entire Blades team, was starved of possession against Spurs but he still found a way to be a creative force in a double pivot with Vinícius Souza.

The 26-year-old created a big chance and registered three key passes out of his 20 accurate passes [FBref] which emphasises his style of play – always looking to play risky passes to effect the game.

Hamer’s exquisite first-timed left-footed finish against Tottenham Hotspur had an xG of 0.08. His goal against Nottingham Forest had an xG of 0.02 – meaning his two Premier League goals have a combined expected goals of 0.1 [Infogol], which is outrageously good.

Despite Sheffield United’s recent loss to Tottenham in the Premier League, midfielder Gustavo Hamer remains optimistic about the Blades’ prospects this season.

He shared his positive outlook during an interview on BBC Radio Sheffield’s Blades Heaven podcast:

“It’s really hard, we worked so hard as a team and a unit. You can see on their celebrations how happy they were with the three points.

“Of course it’s a positive [having a close game with a top team like Tottenham], you can see how much they celebrated after the game, that says enough about us. We can be so proud of that, and the same against Man City.

“We have to make sure we manage the game later on. The points and the goals will come, I have so much confidence in this team.”
