Tottenham Hotspur fans view on Sheffield United

Tottenham Hotspur have already thumped one promoted team this season when they destroyed Burnley 5-2 before the international break. Sheffield United will hope of a shock away result against one of the most in-form teams in the world.

Under their new manager Ange Postecoglu, who has just won the Premier League Manager of The Month award, Spurs have scored two goals or more in every league game. What’s worrying is that Paul Heckingbottom’s side has leaked two goals in all but one league match this term.

After dismantling Vincent Kompany’s Burnley and scoring a hattrick, Heung-min Son will be full of confidence against the Blades. In the four previous Premier League games against Sheffield United, the South Korean star has recorded four goal contributions – two goals and two assists.

Are Spurs fans seeing this as an easy path to victory?

Opposition fan view

Roy’s view:

“I can’t wait for Saturday. Not felt like this before a game for a long time!!”

“I suspect a bog standard match against Sheffield Utd will have rarely generated so much excitement.”

I”’m going and I’m already simmering. (My last match was Milan at home, and after that anything will seem good.)”

“Couldn’t care less who plays, just show me the pretty football Ange.”

“The last four years have given me the utter fear of these banana skin games we are expected to win. Hopefully Ange has installed a different mentality and we wont think we just have to turn up to win.”

“Their defence held up well against City only a few weeks ago but it should be a comfortable three points in the bank”

“They got absolutely battered. Another day would have been 5. Mixture of great goalkeeping and bad finishing. Haaland missed a penalty too. Anything less than 6 goals at the weekend and I’m writing a letter of complaint to customer services. If we can score 5 at Burnley it’s the least we can expect at the Stadium of the Hotspurs.”

“Yes I know you’re joking, but let’s be serious. One against Palace. Two against Forest. Two against City. Two against Everton (got a point). Burnley on the other hand play wide open football and have conceded 11 goals in 1 less game than Sheff Utd.”

“The football will be better, I expect us to win, but we’re going to have to work for this one IMO.”

Home form

In the 2022/23 campaign Spurs were the 8th-best home side in the division. They did give up points at home towards the end of the season – losing 3-2 to Bournemouth and 3-1 to Brentford, after leading both matches in the first 15 minutes.

This can give Sheffield United fans some hope to cling onto if they do go a goal down early. In contrast, the Blades have conceded first in every game this season, and they fought back to almost earn a point against Nottingham Forest (away) and the defending champions Manchester City (home). And, they did earn their first point after falling behind versus Everton.

We know that Spurs will play pretty football, there is no question about that. But, it does seem like every season there is always a question regarding their mentality. Can the Blades test Tottenham’s metal on Saturday afternoon?
