Tom Davies hints of a new role at Sheffield United

Tom Davies has recently disclosed that Sheffield United’s eagerness to utilise him in a more advanced midfield position played a significant role in his decision to transfer to Bramall Lane. The 25-year-old midfielder made the move on a free transfer last month after departing his childhood club, Everton.

Although Davies was among the substitutes during their defeat to Nottingham Forest, he is yet to make his debut for Sheffield United. He expressed his preference, stating, “I’ve always seen myself as a box-to-box midfielder,” during an interview with Stadium Astro.

Having played over 170 games for Everton and having earned 23 caps with England’s Under-21 team [Transfermarkt], the free transfer of Davies was a smart addition to the Blades midfielder. The Liverpool-born man has a ton of Premier League experience and he committed to a three-year contract with the Blades this summer, but he is still yet to kick a ball for his new club.

When asked whether this move provides him with a sense of stability he had been missing, he responded affirmatively, saying, “Yes, you could say that.”

Having had a couple of weeks to play catch up over the international break, Davies could be nearing a return to action, which further enhances the options off the bench for Paul Heckingbottom – he’ll need plenty of them if they are to get anything from Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
