After news that Ben Osborn has suffered a groin tear, Sheffield United are now in search of a left-wingback, according to Alan Nixon. Osborn started the game against Manchester City in place of Max Lowe who is also injured, and may require surgery.

Currently, United only have Yasser Larouci for the left-wingback position. Auston Trusty can play that position as well if required. But, the Blades are desperate to sign a natural left-back or left-wingback with three players in that position injured – Rhys Norrington-Davies is still nowhere near ready.

Paul Heckingbottom will have to acquire a new left-wingback from the loan or free agent market. One player that could be of interest to the Blades is Ryan Bertrand. The former England international is a free agent after being released by Leicester City this summer.

Bertrand, 34, has also been linked with Manchester United as a possible short-term replacement for the injured Luke Shaw. However, those rumours could be manufactured by the player’s agent to try and create interest.

Although the 34-year-old has not played much football recently, United could bring in Bertrand as a short-term option at left-wingback while the injured players recover. He would add an incredible wealth of Premier League experience to the team, and he would act as a great mentor to Yasser Larouci, who was at fault for the late goal against Manchester City.
