Gus Hamer: “we have to grow into the league”

Gus Hamer made a stylish entrance to Sheffield United’s fanbase on Friday night. The skilled midfielder, who joined from Coventry City over the summer, marked his debut for the Blades with a stunning goal.

The Brazilian-born midfielder executed a beautiful curling shot into the top right corner from the edge of the box, equalising after Awoniyi’s early goal at the City Ground. Paul Heckingbottom’s team was denied a point however, as substitute Chris Wood secured a last-minute victory for Nottingham Forest.

United have lost back-to-back games now and they have Manchester City up next, meaning the Blades are likely to start the season off losing three in a row.

In spite of that, Gus Hamer believes Sheffield United will come good, Hamer said: “I think we showed brilliant things, we showed brilliant football. We are a good side. We have to grow into the league and injured players will come back. I’m sure we will have a good season.” [SUTV]

The Blades need to sign a couple more forward players as soon as possible, because right now the attacking depth is quite poor. United have been heavily linked with Cameron Archer over the past couple of weeks but so far negotiations have been tricky. And in recent news, Sheffield United are eyeing a shock loan signing of AC Milan’s Divock Origi, previously of Liverpool.
