Blades to decide on Akpom and Archer

Sheffield United are set to make an offer for Middlesborough’s Chuba Akpom with the forward patiently waiting for an offer from the Premier League team, according to Alan Nixon.

Boro had accepted a bid from RC Lens for €11m, but French journalists are reporting that no agreement with the player has been made. It appears that the forward would prefer to stay in England.

The Blades will now attempt to agree a deal for last season’s Championship top scorer, however, failing to do that, they will turn their attentions to Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer.

Archer is drawing attention from multiple Championship clubs, with the possibility of returning to the Riverside. In the previous season, the 21-year-old showcased remarkable form while on loan with Michael Carrick’s squad. Across 20 Championship appearances, he netted 11 goals and provided six assists [SofaScore].

Aston Villa want to include a buy-back option in the deal for Archer, like they have done with the sale of Aaron Ramsey to Burnley this summer.

Ramsey, with Archer and Akpom, was the dynamic trio that Middlesbrough was able to field last term. Although there has been talks amongst United fans about getting both, it seems that’s out of question, for now.
