Vinícius Souza closing in on Premier League move

A transfer move for Brazilian defensive midfielder Vinícius Souza is nearing, but Sheffield United won’t have it all their own way as Burnley are sniffing around.

Vincent Kompany’s team is in search of a defensive midfielder and has been working towards securing a deal for Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga. However, the pursuit of Lokonga has encountered complications. As a result, Burnley is exploring alternative options and has turned their attention to Lommel’s Souza.

Souza, 24, is eligible for a work permit in the UK and is being considered by both Burnley and Sheffield United, potentially leading to a competition between the two clubs for his signing.

Alan Nixon understands that Sheffield United have tabled a bid and a transfer offer for the Brazilian. Souza is happy with the terms, however, he is waiting to see if Burnley can offer higher wages. Both teams want an answer very quickly.

The respected journalist has also stated that the two Premier League newcomers could pick up the defensive midfielder for a fee of around £5m.

Sheffield United are desperate for bodies in midfield areas with John Fleck suffering a leg fracture in pre-season, and Ismaila Coulibaly has missed pre-season with a knee issue. As of now, United only have Ben Osborn, Sander Berge, Anis Slimane and Oli Norwood as senior midfielders.
