Blades have agreed to sign Vinícius Souza

Sheffield United have agreed to sign Vinícius Souza for a fee of approximately £10m, according to Brazilian journalist Venê Casagrande. The Blades have managed to beat Burnley to his signature after offering the Brazilian better terms.

Souza impressed during his loan spell at Espanyol last season where he played 37 times [FBref]. Despite suffering a relegation, his statistical comparison reads well to the best defensive midfielder’s in the Premier League, particularly João Palhinha, who was the best of the rest in that aspect last campaign.

In the last couple of campaigns, the Brazilian has been deemed “one-to-watch,” even making The Analysts top 50 players to watch in the 22/23 season.

Sheffield United have been short of defensive midfielders for years but now it looks like they finally have one at their disposal. And a very good one at that. The Blades are still light in midfield however.

As of now, United only have Ben Osborn, Anis Slimane and Oli Norwood as senior midfielders that are ready for the opening game of the season. Meanwhile, there is now uncertainty over Sander Berge’s future amid reports claiming that he is ready to sign for Premier League rivals Burnley in the coming days. Perhaps a sale of the Norwegian could free up space to bring Tommy Doyle back to the Lane.
