Sheffield United have identified former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe as an option to solve their current lack of depth in the centre-back positions. The 25-year-old is currently a free agent after being released by the Red Devils due to his poor injury record. Alan Nixon has claimed that Tuanzebe is already having a medical with Sheffield United.
The defender was sent out on loan to Championship side Stoke City in January, but he only made five appearances in all competitions for the Potters. The season prior, he had two loan spells, one at Aston Villa where he featured just nine times, and then the other was with Napoli where he only wore the famous shirt once.
Tuanzebe made his debut for Manchester United as a teenager, and when he was making his breakthrough from the Manchester United academy he was touted to be a star in the making. However, a series of injury problems hindered his career, but he will be hoping they are now behind him.
Sheffield United are currently light at the back with only Jack Robinson, John Egan, Anel Ahmedhodzic and Chris Basham as the senior central defenders that are fit. Adding Axel Tuanzebe to the depth, as a free agent, is a priority.
