Former Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp could have a new club very shortly with Rotherham United being the likely frontrunners for the veteran’s signature.
The 37-year-old began his youth career in the Rotherham United academy before being signed by his boyhood club Sheffield United.
Last season Sharp made 45 appearances across all competitions, managing to score three goals. While this might not be the prolific performance one would expect from the seasoned goal poacher, it’s widely acknowledged within the Championship that he still possesses the ability to find the back of the net at that level. As such, last season’s beaten play-off finalists have even shown interest in the player.
Throughout his illustrious career, Sharp has netted an impressive total of 130 goals in 399 Championship games, with an additional 48 assists to his name, per Transfermarkt.
The Millers have publicly expressed their interest in the former Blades captain Billy Sharp, and Matt Taylor is expecting a decision to be made, one way or the other, on whether the Champonship’s record scorer will sign by the end of the week.
Rotherham United’s manager told Yorkshire Post: “It’s not moved on or moved backwards. It’s where it has been.
“We will probably know by the end of the week in relation to that. I have been comfortable in what we can and can’t do in relation to that. We’ll see if anything progresses.”
